A unique city centre exhibition by young photographers mentored by former YCA winner and professional photographer, Lamar Francois.
Following our recent photography workshop series, led by former YCA winner and professional photographer, Lamar Francois, we’re delighted to showcase the urban photography taken by six participants, including YCA 2023 winner, Deanna Gallacher.
Located in Smithy Row, Nottingham City Centre, four large totems feature candid urban images taken and edited using Lamar’s top tips.
Lamar reflected, “my beginnings as a photographer were found wandering the streets of Nottingham to find images out of the urban landscape - so I was delighted to be able to share this with today’s young creatives as a previous winner of the Young Creative Awards.
"We went on a series of photowalks around the City Centre - where I highlighted photo opportunities in amongst the busy streets and helped them capture, edit and select the images they have now shared with you in the following exhibition.
"Since my award-winning moment, I've developed my work into a business where I capture candid moments, helping creative organisations share the fun of their work with their audiences.”
Participant, Munashe Sasha Dzvia commented, “I’ve always had an interest in photography, so it was such an honour getting to take part in the workshop and having Lamar was such a bonus because he took his time to explain things and the importance of using different angles/ lenses. I also enjoyed the editing bit and it was much more fun getting to play around with the different possibilities of what the pictures I had taken could be!”
The exhibition takes place on Smithy Row from 28th March until 26th April 2024, and was made possible with generous support from It’s in Nottingham and Arts Council England.
