The Young Creative Awards 2018 was the 10th Anniversary of the awards and was an incredible showcase of the young, creative talent we have in Nottingham. In a bumper year that saw a record number of entries (over 600 across the 11 categories), over 100 entries displayed in the exhibition space and more than 650 attendees to the awards, the atmosphere was tense as each award was announced.
The overall winner on the night was 16-year old Kaia Lucas from Bluecoat Beechdale Academy who was crowned Nottingham’s 2018 Young Creative of the Year. Kaia won in the 16-18 year-old Visual Arts category by creating a series of paintings of her younger siblings and was presented with the award by Nottingham’s Young Poet Laureate Georgina Wilding.
There were also musical performances from Nina Smith (a YCA patron), Louis Croft and Ben Haynes and dance from Alexandra Graham’s Group and Isobel Benson. Former YCA of the Year Rebecca Constable did a reading.
We are just starting to plan the 2019 Young Creative Awards so look out for more information in the autumn. In the meantime, keep a look out on Facebook and Twitter.
